At 96, my Nanay Lina’s grace still brings joy to her face. Truly, my mom touches me in my life’s journey. Her moods also affect our family, kamag-anak or kaibigan. Nanay Lina’s behaviour & positive impact especially when she jokes & smiles make a difference in our lives.

“Nanay, you are always in our minds and hearts ni Mary Ann at kasama ka lagi sa aming pagkukuwentuhan, kulitan, pagkain at daily prayers. We love you Nanay!”

From the hospital, we visited Nanay Lina in Sampaloc where we have a short but lively reunion. Nanay insisted that we spend the night with her. I decline politely.

While on board the provincial bus returning from Nanay’s place to geannhomegarden, I was engrossed with the love, hospitality and courteousness shared by my younger sister Margie (who takes care of my mom since day one) and her children.

Margie, her eldest son Benjie and wife Joselyn, as well as Jamael are full of bright colours! Upon hearing that my wife and I are going home instead of spending a night with them, he volunteered to give us a ride up to the provincial bus terminal in Taft Buendia Pasay from Sampaloc. He wakes up his younger brother Jamael from nap who drove us in his Suzuki SUV.

On board the bus, I turn on the phone to send a gratitude text to Margie and family. I was surprise to see successive text messages from Joselyn prior to our trip to Nanay’s place. Joselyn was very anxious about our where about so she can book a Grab taxi for us from the hospital to Sampaloc.

For good or bad, our life touches people. Each person is responsible for his/her own actions to anyone. Nanay Lina, Margie & her children reaction to my circumstances indeed made a positive impact.

My wife saw me smiling that bring joy to her face. Swiftly, I thought that – with a smile - anyone can have positive impact on everyone they meet. God is good all the time!
